Tuesday, June 30: SUMMER TUESDAY MORNING BLUE HILLS CONDITIONING HIKE #5 (Full)
https://activities.outdoors.org/a5UVX000001B52D
Leaders: Brian Gollub, Kenneth Machado, Kimberely Hicks
Please join us for our Summer Conditioning Hike Series in the Blue Hills. This 16-week series will run every Tuesday morning from June 2nd through September 17th. This series is designed for intermediate and advanced hikers who are looking to maintain or enhance their conditioning level.  Participants should be in good physical condition with recent hiking experience that includes elevation.   You can expect the hikes to be about 4 hours and approximately 6-8 miles with an elevation gain ranging from 1,200-1,800 feet (elevation gain will progress throughout the series).   The pace will average around 2mph but will be faster on flat to low grade surfaces and a bit slower when ascending/descending steep inclines. Difficulty level is on the more challenging end of moderate. The routes will include uneven terrain, rock scrambles and ledges in the Blue Hills. One difference between this series and the Spring Conditioning Series is that weather will be closely monitored by the leaders. When weather forecasts predict above 80F weather, we will reserve the right to change the hike to one off the skyline and into the wooded areas. In this case, the distance of the hike may be the conditioning aspect of the hike, rather than the elevation. Safety is our first priority, FUN is our second! Participants should bring sturdy footwear, a backpack, layered clothing suitable for hiking in the summer, rain gear, at least 2 liters of water , a lunch or snacks and sun block. Trekking poles are optional but recommended. Ticks are out, so cool, long sleeved tops and long pants are recommended. Circle-Up time is 9:45am and end time is around 2:00pm. Online registration is required for each weekly hike, but you are not required to attend each session. The hike is open to everyone 18 or older and you do not need to be a member of AMC to participate. The exact starting location along with a detailed information sheet with all of the specifics will be sent to registered hikers several days prior to the actual hike.

Sunday, July 12: LET'S EXPLORE THE TRAILS IN FOWL MEADOW AREA OF THE BLUE HILLS (A TRAIL TRACE) (Open)
https://activities.outdoors.org/a5UVX0000019Y1t
Leader: Paul Brookes
Join us for a grand tour of every single trail in the Fowl Meadow area , Yes, all of them. Don’t worry, the terrain is so flat you could probably balance a cup of coffee the whole way… though I wouldn’t recommend testing that on mile seven. This is a longer hike (7–8 miles) , but we’ll break it up with a luxurious, fine‑dining, white‑tablecloth, Michelin‑starred… okay, it’s a trail lunch. Bring your own sandwich. We’ll be moving at a slightly faster than moderate pace, and I expect we’ll be back at the cars between 2 and 3 pm , depending on how many times we stop to admire a leaf. Everyone who registers will be automatically confirmed, with the final screening happening at the trailhead: which is a polite way of saying: if you show up in flip‑flops, Jeans, or anything that squeaks when wet, I will sadly have to send you home to rethink your life choices. If you’re unsure about your ability, your gear, or whether this hike is for you, just email me and we’ll chat. I promise I’m friendlier than the mosquitoes. The plan is to meet at the end of Royal Street at 9:45 AM for a 10:00 AM start. If only a few people register, we may carpool to the tiny parking lot at the north end of Fowl Meadow, saving about a mile. If a big group shows up, we’ll all start from Royal Street like a cheerful hiking parade. What to bring: – About 2 liters of water – Your lunch – Trail snacks – A small backpack – Bug spray or a bug net (the local mosquitoes are very friendly and love meeting new people) This late in the season, flooding is unlikely 'u nlikely , not impossible'. If the Neponset River decides to get dramatic after heavy rain, the riverside trail might be underwater. In that case, bring water shoes or enjoy an early lunch while we complete the loop and reunite with you about 40 minutes later. And now, the question on everyone’s mind: the afterparty . Yes, of course there’s an afterparty. Trillium’s microbrewery is just down the street, ready to reward your heroic accomplishments.

Franconia Ridge is a picturesque hike along a ridge that tackles Mount Lafayette (5,260 ft.), Mount Lincoln (5,098 ft.), and Little Haystack Mountain (4,780 ft.). Join us for a challenging yet incredibly rewarding day hike to Mount Lincoln and Mount Lafayette along one of the most breathtaking ridgelines in the New Hampshire White Mountains. This unforgettable loop begins with a scenic ascent on the Falling Waters Trail, where we’ll pass beautiful waterfalls, including Stairs Falls, before tackling a steep and rocky climb to Little Haystack Mountain (4,780 feet). From there, we’ll traverse the iconic Franconia Ridge, enjoying sweeping panoramic views of Cannon Mountain, Loon Mountain, the Pemigewasset Wilderness, and the surrounding peaks. On a clear day, the scenery is truly extraordinary; you may feel as though you’re walking above the clouds. Our expected pace will be relaxed-moderate and consistent, with brief stops for water, snacks, and photos along the way. To maintain a steady rhythm and ensure ample time on the ridge, breaks will be kept short until we complete the exposed ridgeline section. If you prefer a faster pace with frequent stops, other Notch hiking trips may be a better fit for your style. Expect rocky scrambles, high exposure along the ridge, and quickly changing mountain weather. Hiking boots, layers, and appropriate gear are a must. Be sure to bring your camera, energy, and sense of adventure! Space is limited.  Registration will be determined after a call from a leader. Once approval has been obtained, a comprehensive gear list will be provided. If the weather is uncooperative, the trip will offer a rescheduled date or, if appropriate, a second, less exposed option for that date.

Leaders: Jeannine Audet, Philip Hardebeck
For fifty years, the Southeastern Massachusetts Chapter of the Appalachian Mountain Club has forged a legacy of adventure, conservation and community across the vast forests, rocky peaks, and sparkling coastlines of the New England region we call home. Join us as we mark 50 years of amazing memories and the enduring power of our shared passion!   Join us for a fun, beautiful ride south of Taunton, MA. Our ride will start and end at Berkley Beer Company. We will ride 23 miles at an approximate 12 mph pace, past farmland, conservation lands, and waterways, with planned stops at Profile and Dighton Rocks. There will be some moderate hills for a total elevation gain of ~900 feet. A helmet, flashing red taillight, and spare bike tube are required equipment. Bring water and snacks; we’ll have a drink and bar food after the ride, and we can engage in some post-ride socializing. Sustained rain will result in re-scheduling/canceling this activity.

Wednesday, July 08: BIKE CAPE COD CANAL AND COASTAL COMMUNITIES (Open)
https://activities.outdoors.org/a5UVX000001BYAf
Leader: Leonard Ulbricht
Ride along the Cape Cod Canal pathway and neighboring shore communities. The trip starts at Sandwich end of canal and travels along canal with chances to see marine birds, just caught striped bass if we’re lucky, assorted boats transiting canal, perhaps even a tall ship on the way to Boston’s tall ship gathering. Beyond the canal you’ll marvel at the flowered gardens and waterfront homes of Gray Gables and Mashnee Island. The ride is 21 miles round trip all paved and mostly flat, including 6 miles on lightly traveled roads. Leader will provide historical comments during stops along the ride. Riders must bring water, a spare tube, snacks/lunch and have a red taillight on their bike. (Massachusetts law requires taillights.) Helmets are required. Rain cancels this trip.
